Waiting

Trav flew up to Michigan to drive his Gramma & Aunt Susie back down here, so Bleys & I are on our own for the next few days. Poor Trav will probably be seeing snow while he’s there!! Ugh. On Friday it’s supposed to get down into the low 30s here. Brrrrr.

It’ll be great to have Gramma & Aunt Susie here, though. I love going to do stuff with Aunt Susie, and to visit with Gramma. Their dog, Taffy, is a lot of fun, too. She’s a little Pomeranian and she just loves to play, play, play. Earlier this year, Aunt Susie and I bought passes to Homosassa State Wildlife park, so I’m sure we’ll be going there on a regular basis, to visit the manatees. Whee!!

Hopefully the next few days will pass quickly so I can have my honey home with me again! Miss you, dear. |*

How to Tell the Sex of a Fly

A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Hunting flies,” he responded.

“Oh. ! Killing any?” she asked.

“Yep, 3 males, 2 Females,” he replied.

Intrigued, she asked, “How can you tell them apart?”

He responded,
“3 were on a beer can,
2 were on the phone.”

Sea World

Our friend Wendy is in Orlando for a conference, and she invited us to go to Sea World. Today was the day! We had a great time. The first thing we did was get something to eat at Sharks Underwater Grill. It was really neat because the entire wall of the restaurant was a huge tank with sharks in it!

Sharks

We also saw two shows - Shamu (the orca show) and an animal show with Jack Hanna. Overall, a very fun day. And because we bought our tickets through AAA, we can go back within 13 days for free, so we plan on making the trip next week. Next time we’ll ride the roller coasters and take in some more shows. Thanks, Wendy!!

Hey, You!

One of the main problems in our country today is lack of personal responsibility. I’m lucky to have very responsible parents, but some are not so much. And if parents aren’t responsible, their kids won’t be, either. Which brings me to this lovely notice posted in an apartment building:

Notice to Tenants

I really like the tone of the letter and the idea that there will be consequences… it’s nice when somebody has the guts to say “Hey, you few are ruining things for the rest of us!” I don’t find it passive-aggressive at all… it’s straightforward and refreshing. Do you think the targets took it that way?

Some of the notes on that site are pretty funny! I wonder how often they have a positive impact on a person’s life? Even just to affect a tiny improvement can be good… leave the world a little better than you found it.

Yardwork

A bouquet of sand spursYesterday I went all around the back yard and picked this lovely bouquet of sand spurs. It’s a kind of grass which grows nasty burrs - see them on the ends of the stalks? Poor Sadie gets them stuck on her legs, toes or tongue and we have to take them out. She’s a good girl, letting us know when she needs help. You can see her a little in the background of the picture.

Today we mowed the back and weeded all around the house. I’m amazed at how many insects make their homes in our yard, and I hate clearing it out - especially the flowers. Sorry I was grumpy about it, Trav. I just love all the critters and want them to have a nice place to live. But I want us to have a nice home, too, so it’s better to clear everything once in a while. It looks great now! And that’s the last time, we’re done mowing for the year. Yay!! And for the part I mowed, I went in nice, straight lines today… this time it doesn’t look like some drunk guy mowed the yard!!

The next thing is to wait for more turkey oak leaves to fall so we can gather them to use as mulch on the pineapple plants out front. Only one pineapple is growing right now, hopefully it will be ripe before we get freezing weather.

Oh and I gathered a nice crop of sheep sorrel from the yard as we were cleaning. Some of it is going in tomorrow night’s salad! And I found a recipe to use the rest - sounds like it would be good to spread on toast for breakfast. Mmmmm. :p~

Scroogled

I’m a big fan of Google, though I do worry sometimes they know too much about us. Check out this story!

No More Chip Clips

My Dad sent me a link to this video… thanks, Dad! And thanks to Mom, too (she forwarded it to him). I had seen an article on eHow on doing this, but could never get it quite right. Now I see!! Cool.
